Im on the first person's side of the fence here...I dont know anything about Christmas bonuses nor credits on bills since mine has consistently went up month-to-month especially this year...
So far I have not seen a difference. My bill has continued to go up while using the same energy amount, especially this year. I have not seen a Christmas bonus or credits on my bill either. I bought my house in Oct 2024 and had all energy efficient systems installed. I raise my ac during the day so it kicks on less when im not home and do the same at night when were sleeping. I see the bill following the same increasing cost pattern as my rental home when I was stationed in California from a major electric corporation.
honestly after being a customer for 23 years i haven't seen the credits or noticed a difference. This can use a marketing campaign to show how this is different, what we get out of it, what are the benefits
I know you would like a detailed answer, but I don't really have one. I have no idea what the difference is between being "a member" or being "a customer". If someone were to ask me, my reply would be I am a customer as I pay my bill every month just like all my other bills.
Credits for being members, Christmas bonuses.
What Christmas bonuses? 🤔 I must not be a member.
I guess bonus wasn’t the right word. We got credits on our bill at Christmas last year.
Although I enjoy the credits, I consider myself a customer of GCEC. We have no choice in electricity providers when we need service at our home. Therefore I do not feel like I am a member with a voice. I am glad that I have GCEC over some of the other companies though. We have 6 meters with 6 separate bills for our properties. Some of them do not even use electricity all month long, but I still have to pay almost $40 a month just to have a meter. I think that is too much.
I currently live alone, and because of my solar panels I don't use much electricity from the grid. My electricity bills usually run me around between $50 and $68 a month, and I believe there's something like $40 a month charge that has nothing to do with electricity. I don't quite get that.
Without the solar panels however, my electric bill was much much higher. I'm a much happier camper now.
I don't have that option with any other utility.
Educating consumers in the differences would be helpful. I've personally not unserstood how being a member of a cooperative is either different or beneficial.
This is a really interesting question. Why does it matter if we are members or not. Do we have a choice when selecting electricity providers?
Probably the capital credits and annual meeting.
